Dr Arthur Theil is a Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) within the College of Computing, where he teaches HCI, user experience design, and accessibility to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Arthur’s expertise includes interaction design methods, accessible computing, and assistive input techniques. His primary research interests include the design of accessible interactive systems and understanding how to support users with diverse and complex needs through inclusive technologies.
Arthur’s recent work on accessible games for Deafblind players received Best Academic Research Award during the IGDA Game Accessibility Conference (2022) and his work on designing wearable haptic technology with Deafblind users received People’s Choice Award during the ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS 2020).
In addition to teaching and research activities, Arthur is actively involved in organising academic conferences and workshops, including serving as the Accessibility Chair for leading HCI conferences such as ACM CHI, MobileHCI, CSCW, and IMX. He is also a member of programme committees for conferences including the ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS) and the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR).
